Local Review
By Sarah Byrne – 2003
Kamilla, one of Grand Rapids’s most quickly rising stars, has finally released their long-awaited CD. The popular metal band has been building a name for itself locally and beyond, and this latest effort will no doubt prove to be an invaluable addition to their already extensive list of feats. The five Grand Rapids natives have a strong and purely recognizable sound; faraway screams overlap melodious vocals the way waves from a troubled sea wash over a steadily changing beach. Their music is heavy, but not the overwhelming clashing that we associate with the metal genre. It’s heavy in an emotional way; if it were a color, it would be gray. You can check it out for yourself at their CD Release party at the Intersection on Jan. 2. For free tickets and information go to Kamillamusic.com.
