Aris’ Rock Search 2002 And the Winner Is

Congratulations to Grand Rapids’ Kamilla, the winners of this years’ Aris Rock Search. Kamilla made the cut from the original 160+ entrants and won out in the end to become this years’ winner.

And these guys don’t have a record contract for what reason? Anyway, this five piece band arguably is the reigning king of the local heavy scene for two reasons: 1. They diversify their bludgeoning metal with melody (a la Deftones) and 2. They just plain rock on stage. Going to see Kamilla –winners of Aris Hampers’ Rock Search and the WKLQ Heavyweight Championships — is always a safe bet.

Yet there we no losers in the Rock Search, as each of the 25 semi-finalists’ got a chance to play on The Orbit room stage. There was also a record crowd of a reported 1,300 fans that turned out for the finals. West Michigan truly supports its local music.
